Deuteronomy 28:1-2

1 “Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the LORD your God, to
observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the LORD
your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. 2 And all these blessings shall come upon you and
overtake you, because you obey the voice
of the LORD your God

Deuteronomy 30:9-10

(when you repent me turn to God)

9 The LORD your God will make you abound in all the work of your hand, in the fruit of
your body, in the increase of your livestock, and in the produce of your land
for good. For the LORD will again rejoice over you for good as He rejoiced over
your fathers, 10 if you obey the voice of the LORD your God, to keep His commandments and
His statutes which are written in this Book of the Law, and if you turn to the LORD your God with all your heart and
with all your soul.

The exhortation is stated thrice:  obey the voice of the LORD your God

This is both in addition to and in conjunction with observing and keeping His written commandments.

These passages more than imply that is not enough to simply read the written Word of God, nod and agree with it.  We must also hear His voice and obey it.

Jesus knew this when He quoted Deuteronomy 8:3 “…man shall not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word (rhema) that proceeds from the mouth of God.  He also demonstrates this when He said in John 4:24 “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.”

Jesus knew the written word (logos) of God better than anyone.  He used it to teach, fight Satan, and to perform miracles.  But even He saw the Rhema from God as vital as food itself. When He taught us to pray, saying, “…give us this day our daily bread,” He
meant so much more than physical provision.

Strive every day to feed yourself the logos(written word, the Bible) because as you store the verses in your soul/mind/spirit, the Holy Spirit will
activate them when He speaks to you.  Verses which you’ve read time and again will take on an entirely new
meaning and guide you to the perfect decision you could never have come to
otherwise.  And that is just one of the ways you’ll hear the voice of God.

But somehow, I have a feeling you’re more likely to hear His voice if you are diligently seeking (not just willing)
to obey it.  Remember, “He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

I leave you with a line from a popular worship song:

“This is my daily bread…

Your very word…

Spoken to me.”
